The Scindia School is established in 1897, and situated in the historic Gwalior Fort, in the city of Gwalior. It was originally started exclusively for nobles and princes of Royal families, particularly the Marathas, though it no longer discriminates on class. The Scindia School was founded by the late Maharaja Madho Rao Scindia of Gwalior in 1897.

Situated at the heart of India, the school is set on the historic hill fortress of Gwalior, 300 ft (91 m) above the surrounding city.

The school has classes from grade 6th to 12th. It is believed to be the first school in India to be a member of an international organization, Round Square, a group of the most reputed schools in the world.

Sprawling across 300 acres and educating boys from classes 4 to 12, Mayo College today is one of the finest residential schools in India.The boys are housed in eleven different houses, named after the princely states of Rajasthan.

Mayo College (informally Mayo) is a boys-only independent boarding school and It was founded in 1875 by Richard Bourke, 6th Earl of Mayo who was the Viceroy of India from 1869 to 1872. It is one of the oldest public boarding schools in India.

It had a view to providing the leaders of the princely states with an education similar to that given by Eton College. The British built Mayo for the sons of the Indian upper classes, particularly the princes and nobles of Rajputana.

 It is founded by by "Bishop George Edward Lynch Cotton". Bishop Cotton also founded the Bishop Cotton Boys' School and Bishop Cotton Girls' School in Bangalore.

Welham was founded in 1937 as a preparatory school for boarding schools in England and India, by Miss Oliphant, an English lady, with a capital of £1000. It is spread over 32 acres encircled by over 700 trees.

The flowering trees and shrubs attract over 60 recorded species of birds. With the Himalayas to the north and the Shivaliks covering the south, Welham Boys’ School lies in the heart of the Doon valley by the river Rispana.

The School Hospital is probably one of the best that any school could desire. The hospital has a minor Operation Theater with a defibrillator, pulse oxymeter, cardiac monitor, an 18-bed general ward, a 5-bed isolation ward, a dining room, a medical store, a record section and a visitor’s lounge.

The school is probably the only ‘All India’ school with applications from almost every state each year, as well as from Indian families overseas. Established in 1935, The Doon School is one of India’s finest schools.

It was founded in 1935 by Satish Ranjan Das, a Kolkata lawyer. The school is a member of G20 Schools and Round Square group. 

Doon houses roughly 500 pupils aged 13 to 18. Admission to the school is based on a competitive entrance examination and an interview. Every year in January and April, the school admits pupils aged 13 in Grade 7 (known as D-form) and aged 14 in Grade 8 (C-form) respectively.


Sylvan surroundings and a salubrious climate are coveted trappings for any residence. The Chandbagh Estate, Spread over 69 acres in Dehradun, was the ideal location for the school. It had been the campus for the illustrious Indian forest College (which has since been relocated as the world-renowned forest Research Institute). 

The acquisition of skinners Estate, from the family of the well-known Colonel Skinners Estate, from the family of the well-known Colonel Skinner of Skinner’s Horse, expanded the woody and lush surroundings to an impressive self-contained 28 hectares.
